Nuisance?

Nuisance?

What can you personally do to prevent nuisance?

  • Get to know your neighbours. Then it is easier to accept one another's habits and ideas. In addition, neighbours can be very helpful when you are living and studying in an unknown city.
  • In some neighbourhoods, the houses often have little soundproofing. You should not cause noise nuisance by playing music too loud or by shouting to one another.
  • Do not use loudspeakers to keep your windows open.
  • If the music really has to be loud, put on your headphones.
  • Get home late? Please remember your neighbours are already asleep.
  • Organizing a party? Tell the neighbours what is going to happen. It is also a good moment to get to know them.
  • Keep your house clean. Do not throw rubbish outside. Mice/rats are unwelcome guests.
  • Do not cause fire risks, keep emergency exits free, and do not store your beer crates on the fire escape.

What can you do if there is too much nuisance around you?

Nuisance means that you regularly experience problems with noise, fire hazards or unhygienic situations caused by the neighbours. The best thing to do is to try to talk to the neighbours before undertaking any other action. Do not wait too long, irritation will only increase if you wait. If talking does not help, please contact the Meldpunt Overlast en Zorg (Registration Desk for Nuisance and Care), telephone: 050 587 58 85. Or you can contact one of the student contact staff via 0900-8844. Or studentagent@groningen.politie.nl
