Student city Groningen: a unique location
Groningen is a real student city. It is a place where an increasing number of foreign students are following (a part of) their education programme. An extraordinary feature of this city is that students do not live on a campus, as they might do in other countries, but in the city itself, among the ”stadjers” (literally: the ”townspeople” in Groningen dialect). Both groups have their own lifestyles, of course. And, particularly in the case of foreign students, there may also be cultural differences. But when students and stadjers have contact with one another, this need not be a problem.
Leven in stad (Flex in the City)
"Leven in Stad" (Flex in the City) is the name of the campaign set up by the Municipality of Groningen, aimed at stimulating neighbours to get to know one another. Once you become acquainted, you can understand one another better, and take the other person’s points of view into account. This helps prevent a great deal of nuisance and irritation.
